Ohio Art League X Space Call for Exhibition Proposals

DEADLINE: Ongoing, reviewed twice a year: May 31 and October 31, 2016

Entry: All Ohio Art League members across the state are eligible to apply

Ohio Art League members are invited to submit exhibition proposals for X Space, a multidisciplinary project and programming space in partnership with Franklinton Arts District at 400 Rich Street Art Studios. OAL X Space provides a flexible, experimental space for our members to create projects and programming with the community.

Each proposal will be carefully reviewed by a committee comprised of OAL members across the state and if selected, will work directly with OAL to execute the final exhibition and any subsequent programming engaging with the exhibition.

OAL reserves the right to refrain consideration of any proposal that does not fit the mission of the organization, is incomplete, or lacks clear objectives.

Not a member yet? Click here to join. OAL will consider proposals from member artists across the state of Ohio.

Exhibition Guidelines

Solo Proposal - can be proposed by the artists themselves or non-participating member in the role of curator.

Multi-Artist Exhibition Proposal - can feature multiple artists whose works align conceptually or is an investigation of a particular medium. Exhibition can be proposed by one of the artists or non-participating member in the role of curator.

Themed Group Exhibition Proposal - should be built around a theme, issue, or an experimental premise that involves a number of artists from the OAL membership. We encourage non-participating member curators to propose exhibitions of this nature. Research and written statement will strengthen submission and establish a context for the show and it's relevance in contemporary art.

Curatorial Proposal – can propose an exhibition featuring one or multiple artists whose works align conceptually or is an investigation of a particular medium. Curators are encouraged to propose exhibitions that respond to our times and to write supporting materials that contextualize artists’ work. Curators cannot include their own artwork in the proposed exhibition.

Selection Process

A randomly selected, rotating group of 7 Ohio Art League members will serve as a selection committee. Each member will have the chance to thoroughly view support material and submit their decisions to the OAL programming committee in the week following the submission deadline.

Policy

As a member based organization, we rely on our members to assist with helping to maintain the league’s operations. Accepted curators and artists are required to assist in install and de-install of the exhibition, reception and co-design of exhibition postcard with OAL staff. OAL will assist in marketing efforts. OAL’s operating budget will cover the costs of gallery signage, printing 1,000 postcards, and providing light food and beverages for receptions and discussions.

Artwork is exhibited at the risk of the artist. OAL encourages artist to obtain insurance for valuable artworks. OAL will handle work with great care, but OAL, its staff, or curators assume no liability for loss or damage to artwork.

Note: Works included in the proposal need not be the final works in the exhibition, but must accurately reflect the quality, subject matter, media, and general dimensions of the exhibition.
