OAL Gallery Changing Spaces

The Ohio Art League embarks on this new venture during its 100th Year Anniversary celebration. OAL will relocate from its Short North gallery to the Gateway later this month in store-front space in the main alley just off High Street between 9th and 11th Avenues. In its new 1,500 square foot space, OAL will continue all current programming for its nearly 600 members including monthly member-curated exhibitions, Spring & Fall juried exhibitions, the December Thumb-box exhibition, and weekly drawing classes. OAL also
plans to collaborate with the OSU Arts Initiative and Couchfire Collective for expanded programming. OAL membership coordinator Eliza Jones will oversee the new gallery, which will be open seven days a week.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to build on our mission through this exciting partnership in our centennial year. Our artist members and enthusiasts will find compelling programming and new opportunities ahead from the Ohio Art League," said Haley Boehning, OAL board president.

The Arts Initiative at Ohio State and South Campus Gateway have announced the formation of Arts Alley at South Campus Gateway, an arts and entertainment community near the OSU campus. The first phase of the endeavor is a partnership with the Ohio Art League, which will move into an available exhibition and programming space in the Alley this month, and the Couchfire Collective. The space is being donated by South Campus Gateway as part of the program sponsored by the Arts Initiative.

Says Karen Bell, associate vice president at Ohio State and head of the Arts Initiative, “We’re delighted the Ohio Art League and Couchfire Collective are joining us as partners at South Campus Gateway. In collaboration with them, we look forward to building a dynamic arts community and working together on a wide variety of activities and programs.” Couchfire Collective will also be planning and programming activities in the space, according to Adam Brouillette, Couchfire president.

The new endeavor will be an added amenity at the Gateway. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the Gateway – the partnership will expand the audience in the area, and engage a wider population outside of our immediate neighborhood. It’s all good,” says Jim Heinen, general manager of South Campus Gateway.
