Since 1910, OAL's annual juried exhibitions continue to be the backbone of the organization's artistic programming, showcasing current work by Ohio artists. For each exhibition, the juror(s) invited by OAL’s Board will apply contemporary standards of excellence to select visual art of the highest merit.


Robert Thurmer, Director of Cleveland State University (CSU) Gallery

Robert Thurmer was born in 1953 in Vienna, Austria and moved to the US in 1973. He received a BFA from Syracuse University and an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design. Thurmer has been curating art exhibitions since the 1980’s and currently serves as the Art Gallery Director at Cleveland State University, where he also teaches Foundation and Museology.

The Cultural Arts Center (CAC) is a combination of a gallery and a teaching space, primarily for the visual artists and crafters located in downtown Columbus. CAC is housed in a 38,500 square-foot space at 139 West Main Street, and is part of the city's Scioto Mile tourist district.

·   Entrants must be at least 18 years of age

·   Artists may enter only their original work - NO reproductions of original work

·   Artwork must have been completed in the last four years

·   Works submitted may be 2D or 3D and must ONLY be hung on the wall

·   The finished work may not exceed 48 inches height or width (including the frame, if any)

·   Artists may enter up to three (3) pieces


Juror will award 3 winners: $500 for Best of Show, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place

Artwork condition and size limitations:

·   All artwork selected for the exhibition must remain as part of the exhibit for the duration of the show

·   Hanging work must be wired and ready to install (saw-tooth hangers and clip frames will not be accepted)

·   Hanging work may not exceed 48’'x 48’' or 60 lbs.

·   Glass or plexiglass must be used over water media, drawings, pastels, prints, photographs and 2D mixed media artworks

·   OAL and the Gallery Director will have the final decision regarding proper artwork condition, display location of each piece, and appropriateness for a family-friendly space

·   Perishable items or artworks with hazardous components, will not be accepted

Image Submission:

·   All entries will be judged from digital images submitted on-line

·   You must submit ONE image for an entry to be qualified

·   Please save images at the highest quality setting to ensure clear viewing of your work. Recommended file size is expected between 1-5 MB; Minimum resolution is 72 DPI

·   Accepted file formats for images are JPEG, JPG, and TIFF may be submitted

·   File names for all images should match the following: "artist first initial last name_title of work_01.jpg " Number each file to match the order of your entry. Example: “jsmith_still life_01” and “jsmith_portrait_02”


·   The curators and gallery reserve the right to refuse entry of materials not prepared to these specifications

·   Upon delivery, any accepted artwork deemed unstable, misrepresented, etc. may be disqualified by the Gallery Director or OAL

·   Submission of an entry shall constitute agreement on the part of the artist or artist's representative that said images may be used without restriction by the exhibition’s coordinators for the purpose of promoting and documenting the exhibition (e.g., press releases, posters, internet promotion, grant requests and reports)

·   Insurance – Artwork is exhibited at the risk of the artist. Artists are encouraged to arrange locally for insurance on valuable artworks. While care will be exercised in the handling of all works submitted, neither the Ohio Art League nor the Cultural Arts Center including their respective staff or volunteers, assume liability for loss or damage to artwork

·   Sales – All monies from art sales will be disbursed as follows: 30% to Friends of Cultural Arts Center, and 70% to the artist within 45 days after the conclusion of the exhibition. Please price your work accordingly
