"I have always been fascinated by plants and mushrooms and the way they seem to be slowly fighting to reclaim their spaces. Sometimes, that reclamation can be subtle, like a dandelion growing up through the cracks in a parking lot, and sometimes it can be brutal, like infection or decomposition. This fascination fuels my art. I heavily incorporate botanical illustrations into modern photography to blend these two worlds, showcasing lush plant life reclaiming often stark and serious photographs - sometimes beautifully, sometimes brutally. Additionally, I strive to find photography that represents everyone. Much of the antique and vintage imagery used in collage features a very narrow cross-section of people. I aim to depict everyone, from all walks of life, being swallowed up by lush florals and conflicting elements. I reside in the Clintonville neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio with my partner Alex and our three cats. My studio is located at 83 Gallery Studios at 1551 Bryden Road in Columbus." |
The Columbus Collage Collective The Columbus Collage Collective was started in August of 2023 by Emily Morgan and Douglas Cuckler (aka Wonder Doug) as a place for collage enthusiasts to gather and create art together. The collective holds monthly Collage Parties and Material Swaps and welcomes all artists of all backgrounds and skill levels in the Central Ohio area (and beyond!) We like to encourage folks to take this time to step away from everyday existence and create art with people who share a love for this dynamic art form. The collective provides all materials - magazines, scissors, craft knives, glue, paper, cardboard, etc. - so one only needs to bring themselves, a friend, and a favorite tool to participate! We also encourage folks to swap out magazines and materials at our events to encourage continuing creation by keeping your materials fresh! |
