"For me, art is a story and a journey. Like many people, I loved art from a very young age, and that passion has stayed with me. My training in art has not been traditional. My Bachelor’s Degree is an interdisciplinary degree in arts and sciences, and much later, I returned to graduate school and obtained a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies. My current artistic practice is focused on printmaking and ceramics. As a member artist at Studios on High Gallery in Columbus, Ohio, I exhibit in both printmaking and raku-fired ceramics. I learned printmaking at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center (CAC) while working full-time in a different field. I use non-toxic printmaking methods and print all of my images by hand in small editions. I do not limit myself to particular subjects or themes, and my inspiration comes from both familiar and new places.
I learned ceramics, initially at the CAC and transitioning early on to smaller group classes at LangWeil Studios, which I still attend. My ceramics include hand-built, slab constructed, and thrown vessels and sculptures. Through these pieces, I explore the intersection of modern forms and ancient techniques, the inherent softness of clay as a material juxtaposed with found industrial objects, and whimsical animal sculptures that entice the imagination." |
