Since 1910, OAL's annual juried exhibitions have continued to be the backbone of the organization's artistic programming, showcasing current work by Ohio artists. For each exhibition, the juror(s) invited by OAL’s Board will apply contemporary standards of excellence to select visual art of the highest merit.

Juror

Elizabeth Gerdeman is an artist based between Germany and the USA. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, she earned a BFA from the Columbus College of Art & Design and an MFA from The Ohio State University.

Elizabeth's multidisciplinary practice is rooted in expanded painting, creating site-responsive works that translate atmospheric conditions, perceptions of landscape, and weather systems into spatial constellations. Through painting, drawing, installation, and material experimentation, she investigates the intersections of land, architecture, meteorology, and regional histories and lore, often incorporating locally sourced and natural materials to explore relationships with place and environment.

Her work has been featured in New American Paintings and the Project Anywhere Global Exhibition Program, supported by Parsons School of Design, The New School, and the Centre for Visual Art at the University of Melbourne. She has exhibited internationally at institutions and platforms including the Museum for Contemporary Art (GfZK) and the Museum of Fine Arts (MdbK) in Leipzig; the Athens Digital Arts Festival (Athens, Greece); the Else Foundation Symposium (Mexico City, Mexico); and the Museum of Contemporary Art (Yerevan, Armenia), among others. Her work has been supported by grants from the City of Leipzig Cultural Office; the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony (KdFS); the European Cultural Foundation; and the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and she has participated in various artist residencies throughout Europe and the United States.

In addition to her artistic practice, Elizabeth has served as an educator, curator, and arts administrator for more than two decades. She has held teaching and visiting artist positions at institutions including the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB); Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts Wrocław; Stockton University; Western New Mexico University; The Ohio State University; Columbus College of Art & Design; and Ohio University, among others.
